UiTM Professorial Lecture: Embryo in Tempestate Navigating the Storm of Preimplantation Stress

This book focuses on the earliest stage of human development, the preimplantation period, when an embryo smaller than a grain of salt begins its journey in the maternal environment. Drawing on more than two decades of scientific and clinical research, the author shows how subtle factors such as inflammation, oxidative imbalance and the health of the mother can influence the embryo's development, its genetic expression and its future well-being. The book is based on the principles of Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) and combines cutting-edge science with personal insights to reveal the remarkable sensitivity and adaptability of early life. Aimed at both experts and curious readers, the book calls for greater awareness, refined medical practice, and supportive policies that recognise the importance of nurturing life from the earliest days. It emphasises that healthy beginnings start before conception and have profound implications for generations to come.
